My 1973 Spider 1600 acted up a little this morning. Nothing serious, but it looks like I'll have to chase some electric gremlins.

Symptoms are:
1. Alternator light on when running.
2. Oil pressure and fuel gauges are not working.
3. Parking brake light not working

Everything else is normal, the car runs good as ever. All was well last night, but I had my stereo out to install an iPod connector, and did not start it up until this morning. I might have dislodged a ground wire or something, but a quick check using a torch this morning did not reveal anything unusual. Fuses seem to be OK.

The spider 1600 jr. is something of a cross between the roundtail Duetto and 2000 S2. It has the dash and most of the electrics from S1, but a lot of S2 bits as well. I have not found a wiring diagram that fits 100%, and so far I have managed using a S1 Duetto 1600 diagram and a 74 S2 2000 Veloce diagram together.

Any hints would be appreciated!

Fuse #6

OK, I was wrong!

It does blow fuse#6; "Alim. Indic.", which probably explains why I'm missing my gauges and parking brake light. (But not why the alternator light stays steady on - everything else indicates normal operation of the alternator)

Unfortunately that fuse does not exist on the Duetto 1600 wiring diagram I have at hand for the moment. I'll see if I can find it on the s2 diagram when I get home.....

Alternator light

OK - moving right along answering my own questions here... :p

I had a look at this diagram:
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/docs/1978 SpiderSchematic.pdf

And it indicates that the alt. light indeed might light up when fuse#6 is blown.
(If the wiring is similar in my car - the colour of the lead is surely different)

So I have a short somewhere along the power lead from fuse#6 to the instruments, park brake light etc.

Any tips on how to locate a short...?

Fixed!

theres a 12 volt wire going to all the guages, pink I think, this one would blow the fuse.

...and there it was! A nice shafed pink wire along the top of the stereo mounting frame!

Thank you!:)

I'd still like a correct wiring diagram, though! Does anyone know where to find one for a '73 Spider 1600 Junior?

Been there...

check the electrical section, papajam has lots.

I have checked there, but I can't find one for my particular car. I've already got diagrams for earlier and later cars, Cardisc CD etc. But I always have to fill inn the blanks myself, as none of the available diagrams is a perfect match for a '73 jr. Maybe I've overlooked it.

Thanks anyway - weather in Oslo is very nice today, so ill be off driving my Spider and leave the paperwork for later...:D

The diagrams listed in the electrical section are only the diagrams that I've drawn in color. There are many more Alfa original black and white diagrams available. I'll check for a Spider 1600 Jr diagram when I get home tonight.

Looks like we're in luck!! I've got the diagram in a German language Spider Jr 1.3/1.6 owners manual dated 5/72. Please send me your email address in a private message and I'll email it to you.
