Looking for suggestions on how to remove the C retaining clip from the back side of the steering wheel on my 74 GTV. Not positive the steering wheel is original to the car though.

The clip holds the horn armature assembly/grounding plate to the back of the steering wheel.

I'm taking the wheel apart to strip the black coating from the steering wheel "spokes", the horm armature and the horn button surrounds. The wood is in great shape.

If anyone is interested in trading the above for a non-black steering wheel in nice condition, please PM or email me. The above wheel is in great condition (beautiful smooth polyurethane coating over darker wood); I prefer the all metal look.

I used a couple small screwdrivers to pry apart til I could get one end out of the groove, then used pliers. Worked OK, didn't hurt it.

Thanks gents. Two small screwdrivers to lift up an edge so needlenose pliers could grab the clip worked. Hopefully putting it back together will be as easy.........
