Anyone know what the steering ratio is on the stock rack from an '84 GTV6?

I looked through a bunch of manuals I had including the official European and US inspection specification manuals and couldn't find anything there.

The only thing I came up with was for right hand drive cars. These were from magazines published in Australia.

The magazine "Motor" (Feb 1983) list it as 21.2 to 1.

The magazine "Modern Motor" (Aug 1986) tested a GTV6 Group A Touring Car with this ratio: 22.4 to 1. The article states this car had high geared steering (2.8 turns lock to lock).

Maybe this info will at least help our friends with right hand drive cars.

Interesting, I wonder how much they differ. Also, what is the stock steering lock to lock, 2.1?

The GTV6 introduction press release states that the steering ratio is 21.2:1 and that turning the steering lock to lock is 3.5

Further info in the technical spec. book is that Spica steering box is used on LHD cars, and ZF steering box on RHD cars.

Obviously a steering ratio of 2.1 lock to lock is a lot faster than standard. It has the advantage of faster steering, but also heavier on the steering wheel.

sorry, I meant 3.1, Yes 2.1 would be faster than 3.5 or even the faster than stock 2.8. So do the LHD and RHD differ in ratio/lock or just in brand, I would assume both

3.1 lock to lock seems to be a speculation, factory info states 3.5 lock to lock. Have now had a quick look in two books with GTV tests and 98% state 3.5 lock to lock, in a couple of test they write 3.7 and 3.6, which probably is misprint or wrong info. The tests contain both LHD and RHD cars.

Tuners of the time however offered faster steering by 28%, either as rebuild kit or complete unit.
