Hi All,

Im about to try to start my 66 stepnose. Its been off the road for 16 years, maybe a bit more. Ive done some searching on here but its still unclear what I should be looking out for.

How do I know if the tank is too dirty and rusty to use.

How do I know if I should be getting a refirb or a new tanks?

If I run a 5 litres through it and drain it out, will that in theory mean its OK to run ( will also change all filters obviously).

I would not trust the old tank without having it steam cleaned and repaired as necessary. You can use a small fuel can to provide a temporary supply whilst you get the engine running but that pre-supposes that the fuel pump is OK too. I think you should check the whole system out together with the electrics, timing etc before turning the key. If you haven't already, remove the plugs and soak the rings with a penetrating oil to ensure that they are not rusted into the bores before attempting to turn the engine over.
