Sprint Speciale 1600 piston question

I have agreed to buy a 65 Spider that was fitted with a Sprint Speciale engine from the factory. The seller is an honest long-time Alfa guy, so I believe it. One of the pistons is cracked due to a dropped valve, but he believes it is repairable. I haven't seen it yet.....
Is there a single piston floating around looking for a home? If not, is it a bad idea to try to repair it and then balance the other pistons to it? What is the difference between an SS piston and the standard 1600 piston? Does anyone know where I can find a replacement or have one made? Thanks, Dan

Just buy 4 new pistons ... they are not that expensive.

JE or is it JP can make any piston you want, just send them a sample. There are other companies too. I had forged pistons made by Cosworth and they were actually cheaper than genuine Alfa Romeo [email protected] cast pistons ... so don't assume this is an expensive option.

Then you will be able to relax and drive with confidence.

Hi Dan,
The place to ask this question is the "Alfa Romeo 750-101" Yahoo group. It's easy to join and the guys know their stuff. With regard to different pistons, yes, I believe the deck height is shorter for the 121 block and therefore may require different pistons.

Hi Mike,
I tried to join the newsgroup, but Yahoo kept telling me that the nicknames I picked were taken or couldn't be used...I tried for 20 minutes and finally gave up. Tell me why Rustrancher, hotseat105, and Hillbilly105 "can't be used on yahoo newsgroups" ?? Dan

I had the same danged problem. After numerous tries I wound up with "williwam3" (my favorite junk mail mispelling). I can't imagine that there's a williwam2 out there, why it took 3 I don't know.

That is bizarre. I joined a long time ago and it was easy. BTW, I really like Rustrancher. If you can't get in, let me know and I will post your question.
