Spica Gap

Going through Wes Ingram's Spica setup and have gotten to the gap adjustment part.

The gap on mine, in the fully extended position (I have a dummy T/A) as it currently sits, is massive. Close to 1/8th of an inch, so obviously way off from the paper thin 0.019" correct hot measurement.

My question is how does it get this far out of adjustment? Is this normal for a neglected, badly out of tune spica or something else amiss?

Cheers

Some quick questions:

Are you adjusting the gap by adjusting the screw in the bottom of the T/A well on the pump?

Did you remove the long rod before you adjusted the screw or measured the gap?

What is the model number on your pump?

What is the measurement of your dummy T/A?

Thanks,

That is not normal. Ensure long rod is disconnected. Don't use a dummy T/A to set the pump gap. Use your functioning T/A. With engine at operating temperature it may take a few tries to get it right.
