I went to change the small seal in the gearbox drive for the speedo cable and ran into a small problem. Loosened the knurled nut and freed amp the cable but the cable won't come out of the drive on the gearbox. I could remove the entire drive but I suspect that should not be necessary?

Hi mate it should just pull out with a square drive on the end . Other wise undo the 10 mill bolt and take the lot out. There will be lots on this in the transmission section in forums. Regards John

It 'should' thanks John. I will have to pull the whole thing out I guess. I was just intrigued as to how the square cable could actually be stuck.

In the meantime, since cleaning the threads, the slow leak has stopped

Sometimes the cable gets "stuck". The first thing I would try is with a pair of dikes gently grab the cable where it enters the housing and then lever against the housing and try and work the cable out. That should work.

I tried that with some good needle nose pliers. No go.
