Looking for a recommendation for snap ring pliers for the snap rings that hold the 115 series clutch slave. I was barely able to accomplish R&R of my leaky slave cylinder today with my wimpy pliers. When I last changed my slave at my late mentors shop over 20 years ago, he had the correct pliers that made the rings a snap. Can't remember what they were and he is no longer of this earth (RIP Hans).

Cheers,

The HB ones might be fine for the slave snap rings. But they will not handle the synchro retaining ring.

agreed... they might not. but in my chlldhood I never had these ...and used cheaper junk than these... and a lot of cussing.. These are 10 time better than the dinky ones I used then.. coaxed with two sets of vise grips on the pins and huge channel locks to SQUEEZE.. somehow I prevailed

The mechanism on the HF pliers for switching between internal and external rings disintegrated internally and then the pliers would either jam open, jam closed or somewhere in-between. My learning is to have one pliers that just does internal rings and one pliers that does just external rings.

Buy the best you can afford...the cheapo ones from HF (or Princess Auto) are junk and the ends usually either bend or brake.....material used on these cheap tools are either not of high strength or are not heat treated (from what I can tell).....though at least they are guaranteed.

I’ll throw in here. I grew up in a rural area and we were not wealthy at all. But my Dad always insisted on buying “good robust tools” and usually USA made craftsman. He scrimped and saved and bought / built Heathkit test equipment- Color dot and bar generator, etc - and was blessed enough to have a Simpson 260 VOM. Bottom line is he instilled in me to buy the very best tool I could afford - even if it meant saving up for it.
His advice has been 100% spot on. My wife has never blinked when I said I wanted to buy an expensive tool - I’m blessed that way.
when I die, all my tools will end up in a landfill probably. But until then, I’m confident that I can do professional work with them, and can rely on them as needed.
knipex snap ring pliers are awesome!
