well I've got a little slop in my 1990 spider veloce drive train at 49k miles, put car on lift and I can turn drive shaft about 1 inch back and forth before wheels turn, so I dropped oil and bottom pan of rear end and can see quite a bit of slop in spider gears, no lash at all in ring and pinion !! thinking about pulling driver side of rear end off , to get center section out and check spider gears, has anyone run into this ? any pointers before I dig in ?? thanx in advance !!

That sort of slop is not at all unusual. If there's no R&P play and it's not making noise I wouldn't worry about it.

just out of curiosity how much roughly, say in inches should you be able to turn drive shaft back and forth before wheel movement ?
