I have the same shift knob. Brian is right: turn the dark collar at the base of the knob clockwise (looking from its top) and it will uncover three hex screws. Undo those and the knob will easily lift straight off with no turning.

How do you remove a shifter knob from an 85 spider? I seem to twist off and I don’t see a setscrew
mine (84) is the factory original, you only have to pull upward and it releases. The rubber between the metal stick and fake wooden knob has a "nose" around, this holds it in in place.
