The leading edge bow (where top meets windshield) is rusted out badly and I have seen a few used bows for sale - are bows welded onto frame or were they mechanically attached via bolts? Its time to do the top regardless and want to get the top frame cleaned up and painted - seems to me that these bows really need to be cleaned and protected well (paint, POR perhaps) prior to top install to avoid what appears to be an ideal rust location. Any thoughts?

IIRC, it is riveted to the side frame, if not it was just bolted. You will most likely need the channel that holds the front seal if the bow is rusted that badly. Spray the plethora of nuts and blind bolts that attach the top to the rear deck with Kroil or some other penetrating oil now so you may avoid busting all those bolts off.... lube all the joints now too before you prep the frame for paint... best of luck, it is not that tough, just time consuming. Dont wonder whether you should take the seats out, just do it!

warmblood, Where are you located? There are plenty used "top bones" around.
I now have 5 cases of bones. You may have one if you pick up in Las Vegas.
