Hi all,

Was replacing my motor mounts and one of the 13 mm nuts that attach the mount to the engine block decided to pack up and fly away. Anyone know the size/where to buy more of these nuts?

She is an '89 quad my father bought new. After getting a family she sat for 15 years and we started to fix her up 2 years ago.

I just did this on my ‘85. The nuts on the studs on the sides of the block for attaching the motor mounts are M8-1.00. They should be available at any decent hardware store or auto parts store.

CORRECTION -- I just re-read your initial post. The studs on the side of the block are M8-1.00. That’s the fine thread. The stud on the cross member (bottom of mount) has coarse thread. I am editing my response above.

You're in Canada so hopefully M8x1.0 is easy to find up there. Down here it can be a bit tough as most auto stores only seem to carry the coarse M8-1.25

Note that most of the cheap-o nuts and bolts you find at the hardware store are low-grade steel. For automotive applications you generally want something of 8.8 strength minimum (and often the even stronger 10.9 for stuff like suspensions). This should be stamped on the rim of the nut or the head of the bolt. Most places cary the higher strength fasteners along with the cheaper unmarked stuff.

Just something to be aware of.

This is a good point. I have an old-school hardware store near me that sells all fasteners individually in bulk (not plastic packages), including high-strength fasteners.

Thanks, that's good info. There is a specialty nuts and bolts store near me and they had them! Lucky me!
