S-3 Run problems, the long and the short (injector update)

As others have in similar threads, I’ve experienced some S-3 run issues. Here’s how and what I found. The usual symptoms, sometimes ran good, sometimes not, usually didn’t fix itself hot, but ran for a month just fine. Valves clearences checked, all spec. Observed crack in exhaust manifold, replaced manifold, later beefier casting, sounded worse when not running right. Induction showed four plugs a sparking, removed 4 plugs, three looked great; #2 odd man-out, compression test showed acceptable #2. (150)changed plug and one wire, 5 minutes into the test drive starting running all four, ordered cap, wires and rotor. Discovered the correct rotor has all most twice as long contact area as wrong Bosch rotor removed from distributor, looks similar but my ignition supplier says Bosch recomends the #04038 for ALFA S-3, the shorter contact rotor is not an ALFA application, turned the key and sweet sounds, so if no more hiccups, I won’t worry too much that #2 is a lazy injector.

injector update

the winner is interface at injector, masked by by nasty looking outer harness; connectors dirty oily on #2 injector, hesistation, stumble gone; on to master & slave, frt bearings, etc

PS - am I missing something in photo #2, '83 spider, altitude compensator @ the empty red socket?
