I found the source of the rust garbage in my fuel tank (the tank itself looks great). The spring loaded flap in the filler neck is solid rust. The actual filler neck pipe is OK so I thought about just removing the flap assembly but it appears to be welded and is not easy to get at. Accidently putting in the larger leaded fuel spout is no longer an issue anyway.
I doubt I can find a new replacement, so has anyone "converted" or adapted a filler neck from another (newer) vehicle of any make?
Otherwise, I may just weld the existing threaded section and the mounting bracket to some stock 2 1/4" pipe.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.
