Hi,

I'm restoring by '68 boat tail 1750 veloce spider, and have a question about side mirrors. Mine are mounted on the door and are the round type. The mirror glass on both sides has deteriorated from the edges in. I'm looking to replace the mirror glass but it's not clear to be how I dismantle the glass from that type of mirror. Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks,

A

The glass is glued in. It will more than likely break if you try and remove it.

Why not just buy new mirrors?
Brian,

Many thanks for the reply. If I have to I will resort to buying new mirrors. I just thought I'd try to use the originals if I can replace the mirror glass insert.

Thanks again!

My 67's mirror is the one on the left. It needed new mirror glass also.

The one on the right is a reproduction. From what I was told, it is similar to a different style that could have been installed on a 67, but it shouldn't have the Alfa logo embossed into it.
That didn't appear until later (69+).

I took the original apart and had the pieces re-chromed.

The shop that did my car's bodywork (Fenders and Fins in Woodinville, WA), had their source cut a new mirror glass for it in the correct diameter.

Thanks! Any tips on taking the original apart or did you have to break the old mirror?
