Good article in Hagerty mag on top 20 tips gleaned form a relatively short Route 66 roadtrip. I'd worry the most about bedbugs.

This actually seems a bit like a self-inflicted injury with the lack of advance planning and preparation, and minimal fettling of the car. Driving on crisp tires is nothing but irresponsible. But it makes for good copy. Perhaps rule #1 should read, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." This was a brave if not foolish undertaking even with 6 car guys, two cars and a chase vehicle. We are not all so fortunate to have "staff". Three trips with over 15,000 miles taking 19 weeks in 3 Giulias with no show stoppers here!!
