Hello All,
I am finally getting around to mounting newly rebuilt head on my 85 Spider Voloce.
I noticed three holes in the block for oil passages in the rear of the engine.
I also noticed my new Reinz head gasket only has 2 holes in that area!!!!
Do I have the wrong gasket?
Pics below.

your piston crowns could do with a clean, don't you think? (Don't for goodness sakes turn the crankshaft!!. as i see you have no keepers on the liners)

I can think of a lot of things to do with the head off:) oil pressure guage ok? Starter Ok, all earths removed and cleaned, mounting bolts tightened (try doing this with the head back on!)? you can go on and on.....and on

this is a link with the area to use permatex on the rear oval holes. (I never use anything with a Reinz as long as I know the block and head is straight)

Thanks Spider,
I have used a thin bead of gray permatex around the two outer holes.

I have beem told NOT to clean the pistons. If I did, I would get three days in the electric chair!
I guess the idea is that you will, without a doubt, get carbon paticles in and around the pistons if you disturb all that gunk.

I have taken advantage of the open space and replaced the motor mounts, cleaned the starter connections, grounding terminals and conductors, injectors are out getting ultrasonic cleaning, new intake couplers, new hoses, etc. etc. ec.

cam cap cover torques for the S4 (and they are probably the same) are:
(wet) 14-16 ft.lbs or 20-22 Nm

I have asked about the 3 drain holes in another post as I dont think I know myself the answer. I would be a bit wary myself - the 3rd hole must be there for a reason, especially if the head has the same 3 holes.....I would have thought:) follow this thread:

(maybe someone has replied after post #23)

Just thought I'd do my part to add one more data point for those who have a 1986 Spider 2.0L and visit this thread. As shown in the 2 photos below, my 1986 block has the 3 drain holes, but the cylinder head only has 2 holes, so in my case, the middle drain hole on the block is truly not used. My gaskets (both old and new) only have 2 holes.
