I'm in the process of restoring my dad's '77 Spider. The rear quarters, rockers, and floor pans need to be replaced. I don't have a big enough garage to do it in, so I'm looking for a good body shop to do the metal work. I've already been by Vick Auto in Fort Worth and they won't touch metal work. Any suggestions?

Thanks

There is a paint and body shop up in Denton called Backwoods Classics. They did some paint and body work on my 1977 Fiat Spider back in the late 1980s. They did a good job but it consisted mostly of taking dents out of the fenders. Richard Woods is the owner of the company and has a lot of experience with modern and classic cars. Here is their address:

1210 South Locust Street
Denton, TX 76201-7113
(940) 565-9066

They are probably not the lowest cost provider, nor are they the highest. I believe they do good work and probably will not keep your car for 6 months. Your other option, if you want the best, is Stuart's Paint & Body Specialists. Their address and phone number is:

10440 Plano Road
Dallas, TX 75238-1312
(214) 221-6999

They are located on Plano Road, just north of the LBJ Freeway (635) in northeast Dallas, near Garland. They work on many high-end cars such as Ferrari, Porsche and Corvettes. Their work is top notch and they have done a few Alfa's and Fiat's for some local club members.

Call Robert Rogers at Shadetree in Nevada, TX (972-843-8134), open Tuesday through Saturday. They will also know which body shop has experience with Afla's.

Good luck with this and be sure to post pictures when it gets completed!

Cheers,

Jeff
