I'm in the process of removing my dash and need to remove the tach and speedo. I'm stuck on how to remove the cables from the tach and speedo. I've tried to pull the gauge forward enough to remove the cables but theres not enough slack. I can't get at the cable from the back either. How do I remove the gauges? Do I have to disconnect the cable from the motor side?
P.S. Not sure why the second picture is marked as inappropriate its just the backside of the gauges.

It's a tight squeeze but you just need to pull it out far enough to get your fingers behind each unit and unscrew the cable. You might be able to look under the dash and pull on each cable towards you and get a little more slack but there's not much there when they're installed correctly. Be sure and disconnect the speedo reset cable BEFORE pulling out the speedometer.

Back of tach
Let me know if it helps

Looks threaded, maybe blindly loosen with one hand?

Middle piece
That's actually pretty helpful. Could you send a picture of the wire end that goes into the tach. I assume it's the same story for the speedo as well.
