I swear I've seen threads on this but I can't seem to find the secret search words...
Anyway, I want to add reinforcement to the back side of the door skins where the handles mount. It seems pretty straightforward but I don't like reinventing the wheel and/or finding out that I could have avoided damage or a lot of work by doing...
So anybody got any tricks, thoughts, etc? I was planning on forming a doubler out of sheet metal and using 3M panel bonding adhesive to mount it. The only real trick I see is the best way to clamp it. I think I will lay the door on a soft mat (skin side down) install the backer and add sandbag weights to hold it.
Next time: before paint...
Thanks,
