Can anyone recommend a registration service and/or VIN verifier for Northern California?

I've been into DMV a half dozen times on one car...still no dice. The car had fallen off the State records, and the owner lost the pink. I've got the last registration card, but it's more than 20 years old.

And, I've just purchased another one with same condition. Other than it has a pink.

It's been a long time, but AIR, we used the California Highway Patrol to verify the vins on cars we brought in from out of state and in one case we had to have the owner sign an official DMV form that the title had been lost. AIR, he also had to apply for a duplicate title; I did the paperwork and just mailed it to the previous owner for his signature. I don't remember if it was an actual lost title form or if it was a statement of facts form. One thing about the DMV, you have to get the right person with the right question, to get the answer you need. It's very frustrating.

If you're not getting anywhere with the DMV, and you're a Triple A member, they handle DMV transactions and might be more helpful. I don't go to the DMV unless I absolutely have to. I use Triple A as much as possible.

Thank you for your reply.

I am a AAA member, but they won't help on cars that have fallen off the DMV computer system. Or, at least my local office won't.

I found a potential helper, Donna Leek. She advertises registration and VIN verification, and her name comes up often in the hot rod community. I'm going to give her a call and see how it goes.

To follow up on this. Donna Leek no longer does this service. However, her son Ken has taken over. He is located in the San Francisco bay area. So far he has been able to get my '74 GTV and '84 GTV6 titled and I just had him out a couple of weeks ago to get my '73 Berlina titled. Great guy, costs a bit of dough, but its well worth it.
