Hi guys,

I am looking to refurbish the rear bumper on my 1978 Spider 2000 Veloce. I've added some photos of the damaged rear bumper. After some research, I found a brochure that shows a bumper with a chrome inlay piece. The only problem is that I can't find this inlay piece on any (European) dealer website.

I want to keep the car as original as possible, so I'd really like to repair this bumper instead of replacing it.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of repair? If so, does anyone know where I might find this inlay piece?

Thanks!

Victor

I thought I read that someone replace the rubber bumper with an Datsun 510 Chrome bumper. I look great in the photo. This leaves you with an additional problem. Converting the front bumper to a European chrome bumper.

Victor, those US spec bumpers are very heavy. The repair will be difficult as the inside of the bumper has a lot of steel in it. The steel rusts and causes the rubber to separate. I know there are products to repair the rubber, but the steel is the issue.

The rubber will need to be removed so that the steel can be cleaned up and treated. It's major surgery.
Brian, I've noticed that the metal underneath is rusted (although I'm not sure this was the cause of the damage or this came after the damage). If I would change the bumper to European spec, wouldn't this depriciate the value of the car?

Changing bumper to Euro spec will increase the value of the car. Looks much better and huge weight savings. Spend a little more and do the front too.
