As I approach the eighth anniversary of having acquired my current Alfa spider, I was thinking about how much I have enjoyed regularly reading this BB, without very often having much to contribute. Having recently noted someone else commenting about appliance problems, maybe here's an idea that could help others.

Refrigerators die long before they should, being engineered inadequately and built that way. After their inevitably premature death, one either pays to have them hauled off to clutter landfills, or at the moment get paid $30 for the same. However, when ours, having been rebuilt once already, gave up again, I was noticing at how nice some of its shelving was, and already needed more effective storage in the garage, not least inaccessible to mice, so I went hmmmm...

It fits neatly in a corner, and almost disappears visually when closed. Stuff goes great in the various bins and shelves. One could even have the light inside work, but I prefer not to mix electricity and solvents. It all works better than even quite expensive single purpose cabinets one could purchase of the same size.

The color of these images may be off, for reasons I don't understand; the car is in regular use, so not in show condition; and the remaining clutter defies my efforts, but the first image shows the 'new' storage open, the second closed.

utility of education

That reply made me realize another value to my post-grad training as a food technologist, wherein I learned that beverages really do taste better if they come from containers whose glass is thick enough not to require plastic liners (incidentally noting that the too thin glass category includes cheap beer and most soft drinks), as well as either plastic or metal (metal beverage cans have plastic or some variant on epoxy liners). After 35 years of differentiating that way, I'm hopeful it will extent even to sleepwalking, should I get that far!

Cars apparently can tolerate leaching from containers better than our tastebuds can, since all the liquids now in the old fridge are either inside plastic or metal, but having said that, the chemist part of me does start wondering a bit...

What I'd like to know is how you got that '6-Point-Buck' to stay in that can long enough to snap those photos?!?

What's different???

I like the 8 point buck note, however better suited is the question: What's different about the second picture that is not in the first picture?????

Now, I'm about as green as the oil in the sump of my spider, but that's an "adapt, reuse, recycle" even I can get into. It's even insulated!

one answer

I used the Italian-made stainless steel barbeque unit to hold the doors open. Keeping it near the deer frightens him enough to stay in the can...

Can't answer that one. I found the set in a field nearby, while out walking one morning.

That's a good idea. Just don't sleep-walk out there for a 'cold one' and grab some 10W-40 instead...!
That adds meaning to the phrase "all juiced up"!!!
