Need to replace the rear exhaust section on my spider. Looking at the part suppliers, I have several options: Stock, Ansa, Stinger. Any recommendations, experiences, pro-cons. The term "performance" exhaust associated with the rear section seems to be unlikely however I would like a better exhaust note. Thanks for your input.

I'm the uncredited creator of the stinger. After replacing my rear box for the third time (one with an ansa) due to rust, I welded in a section of pipe to replace the actual muffler as an experiment. It actually sounded much better and, in my imagination added a little oomph.

I live about 20 miles from Centerline and showed it to them when I was picking up other parts. The stinger appeared in their catalog a few months later. Hmmmm. I actually replaced my home made sting with a Centerline piece a year later, it's better made than mine. Buy the stinger. Cheaper than a muffler and sounds much cooler.

I just purchased an Ansa rear exhaust for my 86 spider from Car Parts.com ? Auto Body Parts Online ? Aftermarket, Discount, Cheap. I paid around $80.00 some dollars with shipping, I think the Ansa Sport was in the $160 range. I am very happy with the stock sound of the rear muffler. I also removed the cat converter and only have the center and rear muffler.

My 76' had a ansa on the rear when i bought it (although what condition it was in i'm not sure) I later replaced it with a stinger. The noise level from them is about the same but the stinger gives it more low end tone and a bit more burble to it when you get on it. Plus it has a really cool echo at idle

If you like exhaust noise you'll like the stinger. Me, I find it incredibly annoying.

There's no performance increase from any of them, except perhaps for Ansa's amazing performance at being able to rust. So go with OEM or stinger depending on how much noise you want.

Had an Ansa sport. It was fine. Didn't rust (but I live in a dry climate).

Ditched the Ansa for a stinger a couple of months ago. Not going back. Great sound. Love it.

4x Stinger.

I replaced my exhaust manifold with one from a '74 Spider and was able to eliminate the CAT so I went back with Stock with a stinger pipe. LOVE IT!!!

Sometimes you just have to experiment. I went from stock, to Ansa sport, to stinger, and ended up with a Stebro. I love the Stebro. It is a shame they can't be gotten, trouble free, nowadays.
