You sure you have a '74? The plastic rear bumper strip was added to cover the gap between the black federally rear bumper in '75. A properly installed stainless steel bumper should have no visable gap.

Wait, what? So should a 74 stainless bumper be positioned suer close to the rear so the strip is not needed?

That would be great, but I would imagine there would need to be shorter mounts- there is a 1-2inch gap

I have a 74 also and have the same rubber flap and 2” gap ( I believe the 5mph bumper extensions came out in 73) ... just today I removed the bumper extension bracket and replaced it with aluminum flat stock while leaving the rubber cushions . This sucked the bumper in exactly 2” , looks way better imo .
