Hello!
I just purchased a nice dry 1965 GTC in Walnut Creek CA. The original grille was damaged at some point and replaced with the only grille that seems to be available (a stock picture is below on a red car). Most GTC models have the grille center shown on the red car and that is still available, the apparently more rare version of the grille center is not available. It appears from pictures that I have studied that most GTC cars have a flatter front nose than the one I purchased, and different front turn signal lights. The grille center on the one I purchased sits at more of downward sloping angle. Any light someone could shed on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks! :)

Hi Douglas, do you are talking about the differences between the 7 bar and 6 bar heart? A 65 GTC would have had the 6 bar from new and you are correct in that they never made a reproduction. I have heard the 7 bar heart repro is a pretty average fit but maybe the most recent batches are better. The 6 bar heart was only on the GT and GTC but really there should be no fitment issue with an original 7 bar. I have never heard of different nose shapes. Would be keen to hear more or see some pics.

The change from the 6 bar to the 7 bar must have happened when the GTV was released in September 1965 .
Both grilles have the same part number ie : 105.02.59.031.00
Picture below is a NOS 7 bar.

It looks as though the 6 bar one you show has been slightly damaged in a way that has pushed the lower badge mounting circle area back beyond the upper bar.
Personally I would take the 6 bar one to a chrome parts repair specialist & see if it can be repaired. It is a very rare & sought after item.
Regards,
Vince.

I agree with the other comments about your grille. I have owned a 65 GT for 40 years and it has the 6 bar grille and I have tried to replace it with a 7 bar that was in better shape but it does not fit the body properly at the top. My car is an early 65 around the 580th Sprint GT made.
