When I start my Spider after a month in storage (76 with Dellorto Carbs) I usually have to clean the spark plugs in cylinders 3 & 4 as the are coated in mix of fuel and carbon.

As its 2 cylinders nearly identical I assume its something with the carburetor. Any suggestions? should I back of the idle mixture a 1/4 turn ? or is it more likel y a choke problem?

I had a similar problem with a 102 Alfa. Turned out to be a leaky float causing the rear carb to run very rich all the time. This resulted in ruining the two rear cylinders and pistons.

If your car runs well after clearing up, then it is probably not the floats. If it stumbles during initial acceleration, then it may be a bad float.
