I've got a 74 spider with a badly slipping clutch. The fork that is engaged by the slave cylinder ball-end rod has about 15mm of play, and can pushed away from the ball-ended rod protruding from the slave cylinder when the slave cylinder is in the unextended position.

I'm thinking the clutch plate is toast, unless someone out there has another opinion.

So you are saying that you can manually compress the pressure plate with the clutch fork? That being the case, I would agree - you've got issues with the pressure plate unless the fork itself is toast. Either way you are going to need to pull the bellhousing apart and it will be obvious what the problem is at that point.

Good luck!
