People's Reaction to Your Car

This is a question asked over at Ferrari Chat, as to how people react to the car. I can tell you that my 164 gets almost as much attention as the Ferrari did. In the last 2 weeks alone, I had some guy who was driving a new Bentley ask if my 164 was the new Alfa they were bringing back. Another guy at a gas station asked pretty much the same thing. As he was driving out he yelled "Enzo would be proud!" :p (btw, that was a 1/2 hour before I got rear ended) :(

Anyone else? Get any interesting questions or comments on the car??

Well, two Porsche Boxster babes in a red one with Italian flag decal above center exhaust pipe went Gah gah! over my 164 this weekend so I know they have good taste. Nice looking Italian babes, too. They said, " nice car, we don't see too many Alfas around here".

Not to make this into a babe session but the best reaction I ever got in the history of the owning this 164 was the 2nd day I owned the car (6/10/94). I bought the car at Prestige Imports in Miami FL, I drove it all the back to AZ.
On my way back somewhere outside of Miami 3 hotties in a truck drove up beside me and two of them, well how should I put this... stuck there butts out the window and pulled up their skirts! Lets just say the skirt was the only thing covering one of their behinds. Then I got kisses blown at me and never saw them again! :( LOL! You could never get that response in any other sedan.
I will never forget that! Not only was it shocking but funny as hell.

I get all day long responses like above, people asking me about it at the gas pump, thumbs up on the freeways, dumb a$$ kids telling me my car is SICK, I say "yes sometimes it's an alfa".

Some people make me roll down the window to tell me my car is beautiful! etc and so on.

I have had people ask me if this is the new alfa as well. I say no it is a 1991 and their jaw drops.

The typical a..l..f..a..r..o...m...e..R...o. reading of the lips in the rear view mirror looking at the badge like a granny! I can always see the "R" when they say it too!

Timeless design!

LOL anyways just some fun stories!

Thumbs up! Always. My wife in the passenger seat "I love this car!"
Wish I could get a response....

I have been waiting for someone to notice my 1991 Alfa 164S which is in great condition! I have had it for a year and a half. I live in the Los Angeles are (valencia to be exact). This area is an extremelly So Cal materialistic and "showy" area. Everyone has a brand new luxury vehicle(which they are all leasing). I drive it all over town and NOBODY has ever looked at me or asked about it! I am starting to think that when they see me they think to themselves, "That guy must be poor as he is driving an old FIAT product!". There are a handful of brand new Ferrari's, lambo's, BMW's and yes, tons of Hummers". All the women drive SUV's and have just as much money invested in plastic surgery and fake breasts!
Mostly soccer moms driving around this small community all day and their attitude is "if your car is not the latest model you must be at low-income and I am so glad I did not marry a loser like you!" (Which I am a college professor, BTW)
All the more reason for me to love my Alfa and realize that I am part of a small group of people that have real taste and appreciation of the finer things in life regardless of price!
I drive mine proudly everywhere!

What a way to roll my post odometer onto the infamous magic 5000 mark as I just noticed it!!!
I get a lot of questions at drive-throughs:
The bank, fast-food places, parking garages. Some are not quite sure what it is and are seeking validation. Others are sure, and still others are clueless.
Oh, and how about this one:

"Alfa Romeo?" "Who makes that?"
I am starting to think that when they see me they think to themselves, "That guy must be poor as he is driving an old FIAT product!".
Poor? You need a small fortune to keep these relic's on the road. They just don't know cars. You will get it soon enough! but again your in LA, Alfa 164's saturate that area pretty good, but I get looks and thumbs ups all day in blingville scottsdale I mean snotsdale. I had some blingy chick (Hat on sideways ,maybe in her mid 30's? can't tell from all the Plastic hanging out of here wife beater) in an escalade (license Plates read: MZLouisV)
She still looked. LOL Maybe it's just my charming good looks. haha!:p
So who knows?

And then once I had "Nice Beamer". Made me sick.

Well, I had to shuttle my friends to the motogp race at laguna seca last weekend. My friend is a big fan of huge reliability aka own japanese. I took him and his wife and a friend to the races on saturday and sunday. Lenard gave me a radar detector a while back. I turned it up to max, and cruised at around 100 for 20 mins. We got to Salinas in about an hour. My passengers thought it was due to low traffic in the early hours of the morning. After we got out of the car I told them "well you know we had been doing over 100 MPH for about 20 mins of that trip." They said "We were going 100?" They had no clue, the 164 was so quiet and stable they did not even know we were going that fast! These cars are deceptively fast, great for long hauls. The best part of the trip? My Mr. Honda friend was really impressed! The 164 is indeed one of the most underrated cars of our time, enogh said...

aha. Tried a seach, but I guessed I missed it.
And then once I had "Nice Beamer". Made me sick.

:(That's even worse than the gas pump attendant who said to me, "Is that an MG?"
I said no, it's a Truimph:).
A lady in the office parking garage asked me "Is that one of those new Toyotas?"
A guy I know at the local pub asked me how many "Maserati's" do I have? Well at least it was in the same family. Oh and the other day in the GTV6 two guys at lunch stopped mid walk and said "check that out! that's bad ***"... Gave me a grin...
Last night, one of my friends (now in England) saw a photo that I sent (of my 164) and said "you've bought one of those Rovers have you... as in, Rover the dog"...

Oh man I have had is that a...HONDA?, EAGLE?, Etc....
You know guys, "foreign" cars in the U.S. are SO common and most are actually made in America that people don't really think about them as "foreign" anymore, but the 164 looks VERY foreign to most folks around here, which makes it all the more fun and unique.
