Instead of plunking down a couple hundred bucks for OEM-ish replacements, has anyone ever considered nabbing some modern plastic wheel well liner from the boneyard, using the rusted out original as a template, and just cutting a new never-rust replacement? Better than consider it, has anyone tried it? I'd like to eventually upgrade to the snazzy aluminum liners that fill the entire wheel well (from Highwood Alfa in the UK), but until then...

Could you make a fibreglass copy of the steel original?

Okp.de has them for well under $100. I think Centerline has some as well on closeout right now.
