IIRC, there's got to be a directory called 'windows' in the root of the C: drive. Try creating one and try the install again.

hi bs,i must warn you,my computer literacy skills are neanderthal!
i did have a look in the c: drive and found a folder called windows with loads of files in it e.g. addins, app compat, app patch etc. is that what you mean?
i must add,the disc is over 10 yrs old! i did email cardisc but they just want to sell a new one to me.there must be another way.i pasted some info on from the disc below...doesnt mean much to me:confused:

this is what cardisc said......"Your old CarDisc will not run on the newer Windows operating systems. You will have to get a new disc.

We do offer an upgrade to the latest version that is in PDF format and is on DVD. "

thanks for your help!

If you are running 64 bit Vista or Windows 7 operating system (OS) buy a new DVD. If you have XP OS your car disc must be ver 3.2 if 1.3 or 2.0 they won't run on anything past win 98.

This is called consumerism and Mircosoft and others have planned it that way.
