About a month ago I went out to start up the Alfa to meet a friend for lunch and smoke came pouring out of the steering column. Luckily there was no fire. Unfortunately, no there's no spark and she won't spark. During my investigation, I didn't find any evidence of burnt wires or connections, and discovered that one of the previous owners had already done the ever popular ignition switch bypass.

Now, since I have to replace at the minimum some wires and at the maximum coil/distributor, I'm thinking I should upgrade to electronic ignition. I did some quick searching and this was the only thread I found, but it's from 2003...

Is there new-er tech now? Easier to install? Any and all advice is welcome!

Oh, and any of you live in the Bay Area and have an urge to do some wrenching, I welcome helping hands!
