The asking price is $21,900. This car was for sale locally in suburban Chicago starting last Fall. The long time owner had some health issues, and put it up for sale in Craigslist for $12,000 +-. It sat in Craigslist while he reduced the price slowly. When I went to go see it, he was asking around $9,000 for it.

The car in some ways is better than what the dealer represents. Mike Besic has redone the heads, and added Euro cams. It also has a full Shankle suspension, along with very rare Shankle fiberglass bumpers. With one exception, the car was very clean and rustfree. The exception was the sills. Both sills significant amounts of bubbling. It had not broken through the paint, but the bubbling ran much of the length of the sill. It was strange because there was minimal rust elsewhere on the vehicle. The rest of the car was nearly perfect. It drove well, but needed some exercising.

I should have bought it, but passed for various reasons. Later, he dropped the price to the $8,000 range. In February, I called him to make an offer, but by then the dealer currently selling the car had bought it. The seller told me the dealer didn't test it drive it, just drove up and trucked it away.

Here is one of the original advertisements for the car that I saved.

It seems to come up regularly that sellers think Lauda spiders are worth more than other Spiders. This one might be, based on the low mileage and condition, etc., but the concensus on the BB typically is that they aren't worth more just because of the special edition.

Different strokes for different folks. For some unknown reason I think the Lauda Spider is very very cool. Gosh but I get tired of seeing English wheels on Italian cars though-yuck.

I've never been fond of the adornments but fact is there were only 350 Nikki Lauda Editions and there probably aren't many left so, like it or not, they are eventually going to be worth something. Maybe not to any of us who frequent this place but for those special kind of folks who love to "collect" things.
