Morning all
Just introducing myself, I met a guy recientlly who has a 1969 Berlina that has been off the road for a long time.

I never worked on a Alfa before, so I am sure I will have a few questions down the road. I am going to be helping him get his car road worthy, and doing a minor cosmetic or driver restoration. It has all the typical New England rust issues, but everything is there it's a very origional car, and he has owned it since new.

I went over last week, and got it running so at least it runs.
Going over there today to do a deeper inspection on the car, and see what it is going to need to make it road worthy.

I know the guy I will be working for doesn't have a huge budget to restore his car, so I am trying to keep the cost down(as much as possible) So Hopefully I can find some Alfa guys in the Boston area who can give me advice, and help us find parts to get it back on the road.

I will post some pics tonight, and if you want to contact me my e-mail is dhco6[email protected]

Thanks Don

Fantastic! It seems we have quite a few Berlinas/Giulias hidden in garages in Massachusetts.

Welcome!

Pictures please!
Ok some pics

Fairlly new front brakes, but the dust covers on all the brakes are swiss cheese. Most of the chassis is like this, it will need new trailing arms, the buckets that hold the front coils to the lower control arms, and a few other things under the car

There is rust around the wheel wells, in front of the trunk, the rear pannel, and a few other spots. All the paint it pitted and chipping away. Stripped the worst areas down to metal, to see if I could find good steel. I then sprayed some self etching primer, then sealing primer on those spots. While I doubt it will ever be perfect, it looks like once I strip all the paint, most of the body is savlvigable

Oh one other thing
Does anyone know what color this is, and is there a close rattle can match to it that you can get at a autozone, pepboys, advanced type of place just so it won't look so bad till he can get it painted??

Congratulations; 69s are great. I had an olive metallic 69 Berlina for five years.
Doesn't look like an original Alfa color. Normally Alfa put a paint sticker on the front edge of the trunk lid, inside. And maybe inside the trunk, hood, doors, will show you the original color? The two common blues are Dutch Blue (dark) and Le Mans Blue (periwinkle, sort of) and I'm not sure either is seen much on 69s in the US.
Please post or send me the VIN and engine number for the Berlina Register, and if you include your email I'll put you on the mailing list for newsletters.

You moved to Boston just in time for a reknown Berlina guy, Brian Shorey, to abandon Boxborough for NorCal. But there are tons of knowledgeable Alfa guys in your area. Mechanically, the Berlina is exactly the same as a GTV or Spider, so if you can fix one, you can fix the other.

There is a 1750 GTV in our neighborhood in that colour. Long term family owner, original paint. Very smart.

Two other questions
Does anyone have any stock height coil springs?
I have searched and have only found one inch lowering springs

the other question are the any brake dust shields available for the brakes front, and rear

thanks

I will be curious about the original color. Yes, non-US markets got a lot more colors than we did. If it was a US color, there weren't many of them.

Yes, I was too. Many years ago (as in around 1987) we built a 1300 GTJ race car and painted it a very similar colour only because a local paint shop had mixed several litres of it for a client but got the tint wrong so we got it very cheap.

Once that race car was done we saw this original 1750 around and one day it turned up at a local Alfa specialist. Turned out they had serviced it since new so knew the owners and the car very well. I've never seen another one in the same colour.

Talked to the owner he found a old paint can from when he had it repaired after a little fender bender. The code on the can was AR-337 and as the origional owner told me has allways been that color
