Newb Question - GTV6 Spoiler/Rocker Color

1133 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  sh0rtlife
I've finished restoring the bumpers on the GTV6 and now there is a startling contrast between the bumpers and the front spoiler, rocker panels and other plastic bits on the car (vent triangles and fuel cap) which seem to have faded to a dark gray.

When these cars were new, were the plastic bits black and what is a good product for restoring the color?

I repainted the black metal parts of the bumpers and used Black Again on the plastic end caps and rubber. They look great right now, we'll have to see how they hold up in the long run.

Thanks!

I've had good luck with all of the plastic parts on mine using SEM landau black paint (comes in a spray can...usually at auto paint supply shops)

Thanks John. I've had very good luck with SEM products in the past. I'll check it out.
When I had my car repainted the body shop repainted all those items in a satin dark gray to match the original color as close as possible - it turned out great. They were not black on at least to 84 models ... not sure after that. The body shop used a special paint used for rubber/plastics - don't have a name though it was a ppg product. It would be pretty easy to pull all those parts from the car and take them into someone.

most importantly on plastics is prep work..i cant stress this enuf prep prep prep and prep again...when you think your done prep it again..theres alot of products out ther...me personaly i hate anything that comes in an rattle can..some PPG with some plastic and flexability additive works great on plastic bumpers
