I hope you got to drive your 164 today. I got to drive mine for a 20 mile round trip. My daughter got to drive hers about 20 miles by doing two trips today to work and video store.

Was a low to mid 30 degree day today but they worked fine with their new thermostats.

Just remember a day without an Alfa whine is like a day without sunshine.

You got that right! Looking forward to posting on my front end rebuild, my 164 sadly is as skittish as an alley cat right now. Not unsafe, just not planted like a 164 should be. Look forward to driving her next week!

This is not a good post for me Steve,

Today I drove our 164L for what may be near the last time before youngest Teen takes over......woe is me for being in love with a heap of metal and leather.
It is humming beautifully - failed temp gauge sender and all.

Hopefully he gets his license on Tuesday and until then he drives me everywhere we go.
Tomorrow we go into advanced skills and of course parallel parking if I can find such in the city center.
After Tuesday I will probably only get to drive it when something is going wrong.

The steering rebuild will commence about a week after Teen has enjoyed his new found freedom in his poor man's Ferrari.

I am working on an angle to purchase a neglected Benz 300E in the faint hope that Teen will rather want that ......... we will see tomorrow whether it can be restored without too much fuss.

That Alfa Whine is addictive.

Neville.

You gotta keep yourself in the Teenager driver's seat now and again just to be sure all systems are still a go. My daughter is a good keeper of the car but she still does not know to report all the abnormalities that may be occuring.

Slight chance of subject - we had a stick shift driving lesson last week in my Ranger PU truck and she did so much better than trying to do it in my 164. She likes the 93L 5-speed better but has not quite mastered the clutch in it but I was amazed at how much better she is doing with the truck.

We got back the other day from an 800 km trip to Beachport in the South East of our state in our new 1992 164. We had it loaded up with the four of us and all the camping gear and it purred along beautifully with the aircon keeping us comfortable along with the leather seats. It is a lovely car and is in superb condition. In fact it went too well because I landed my first speeding fine in 25 years doing 124KPH in the middle of nowhere, courtesy of a cop car coming the other way with a radar on his dash. As my wife said "Ce la vie!"
I have to fight my wife for the car. My teenagers will be driving the GTV. I want them to learn in manual cars. Anyone can drive an auto. The amazing thing is that you can get your license in an auto and can legally drive a manual with little or no experience.

Driving home from work yesterday, I spotted a Ferrari 360 Spider getting on the interstate, so I slowed down for him to catch up ;), the interstate split and he was going my way (still in my rearview mirror) slowed some more and he finally passed me several miles later. It had dealer plates and looked brand new, so I pulled in behind him and fortunately he was using the same offramp. He down shifted and it growled loudly :D and then put on it's brakes and I over reacted a bit on mine and I slowed WAY faster than I thought I was going to (ATE super blue, I tell yah!) :p anyway, we went through two roundabouts (a new thing here) and I got tired of driving too slow and opened the 164 up like a miscreant... he was still in the roundabout behind an Aerostar while I was enjoying the howl of my 3.0. :D Enjoyed seeing the only "other" Italian car on the road though. ;) Today, well I drove the Volvo down to the dealer to get some plastic interior items, made apparently from Swedish gold!
Charles

Edit: actually, I pretty sure it was a new F430!

Yes, beautiful day here in Phoenix, like 71˚F. Drove out to a customers house repaired his 164, so he now can drive his then went to another customers house and spent time there drooling over his Porsche Carerra S which was fully loaded with body kit and everything. Bought it off Olgvy...the golfer;
and a few others while test driving his s which had just had $8,500 worth of engine work done at Ferrari of Denver.
After that I took a nice drive a round town and stopped at SCCA porsche racing for a bit. I think we have rain tomorrow so today was a great day to drive the 164.

My 164S has just been sitting in the garage. My wife has been afraid to drive it since the fire. Everything has been repaired, but she doesn't trust the car anymore. She's been driving my son's Celica. She took the Alfa out to the store the other day, about 1 mile round trip. Everything worked fine, but she still doesn't want to drive it.

I have a meeting at a church about 30 miles away tomorrow. I'll take the Alfa and let her drive my company car to our church. Hopefully everything will work fine and she'll gain some confidence in the car again.

Greg,
Just claim the car as yours! My wife never drives mine since she can't drive a manual trans car, suits me just fine. ;) I'm not going to teach her on my car either. (one tends to get overly worried about a tranny that you personally took completely apart and fixed).

Two weekends ago, Bruno got his first decent workout. 200km around Merino stud breeders here in New England (the aussie version). Went like a champ. Neoprene beer can cooler is still holding the steering rack in the car but it shows no signs of moving, even after some serious dirt road action. Bruno is not really suited to dirt though - there is no ground clearance and it wallows around like a whale in deep dust. On the bitumen however, it's a weapon.

I've been driving mine every day and it's starting to get on my nerves. It starts every time I turn the key, runs flawlessly, sounds great and is just too fast. I can't wait until the weather breaks in the spring so I can break out the Alfetta and drive a car that always leaves doubt in my mind that it will get me where I'm going, leaks oil from new places, smells like exhaust and raw fuel, gets 18 MPG if I'm really lucky and makes peoples ears ring when I get on the gas hard and always puffs a small cloud of smoke when I shift.

GOD I LOVE THESE CARS

Paul

OH... did I mention that I really hate it when I can only be doing 75 or 80 at the end of an entrance ramp getting on the highway?

Waiting for next weekend

I've been without my 164S for almost a month now, as I rebuild the motor and replace the clutch. As of this afternoon, the motor and trans are bolted to the subframe. The entire assembly is on a moving dolly, ready to slide under the car for reinstallation beginning on Tuesday.

Every day I get to look at the car sitting in the driveway, waiting for its heart transplant. Until then I get to drive the Fiat Spider, which my daughter has fallen in love with during our daily trips to daycare. Every time we go somewhere, she wants to go in the "loud car".

I just smile and think "yep, that's my daughter."

Sunday dinner and an Alfa drive

Well, still in 30's but we (a foursome) took mine out for a nice Sunday drive with a dinner stop in the middle of the drive.

I try to drive my 91B and 93L a couple times each during the week but some days I have to drive my Ranger if I have to get something bigger than cars can handle at Home Depot, etc...

Nice to have to make a decision on whether it will be white or red Alfa the other days.

Oh, we used to publish in our local chapter newsletter "The best on-ramps" around our area. Real hoot to keep in practice on the better ones.

Sun came out today so I washed the "S", they get real dirty when you drive them IN THE RAIN!!! What a concept, driving an Alfa in the rain.....my poor Spider would just DIE! Anyway, the 164 got a nice bath and seemed to like it!;)

Rain May be One Thing, But Salty, Snowy Roads are Another!

Alas, my 164Q is in storage for the winter. I just can't drive on the snow and salt covered roads we have here this winter. (more snow than I can remember in January!) So the 164 is in storage. But that just gives me something to look forward to in Spring, and it also gives me time to work on the car. (to the detriment of the Duetto's of course. But the 164 drives and the Duetto's do not, so the 164 gets preference for now!).

I drove the 164S about 60 miles today. She performed perfectly. The only problem I had was keeping it around the posted speed limit. This car really is a thing of beauty.

I often wish the company I work for would give me a mileage reimbursement rather than provide a vehicle, then a 164 could be my daily driver.:)

It's been raining tons out here in socal so I've only driven to the store and back in the S and today took the L out to pick up my dad and give him a ride to the mechanics. It was nice driving the L since I had not put a mile on her for about three weeks. Both 164's a filthy with pine needles, I really need to build a new place with like a six car garage :)
