Very Nice, I still would perfer a 59 sprint!

Hey Verdegrrl, nice A6. Did you work at a Audi dealership? If you did which one? I use to work at Rusnak in Pasadena.

How did the A6 run at Streets of Willow? My friend took his 2001 1/2 A4 last februaryand had a blast. He's taking his new 02 A4 to streets of willow this february again. He just threw some H&R coil overs, rides nice! We'll see if he can creep up on the GTV!!!

I used to work at Commonwealth.

Now work for AMS, the Abt importer. I know Manfred and Jerry quite well.

I don't own an Audi - yet. We'll see if the new S3 ( new A3 debuts this Spring ) or the 147 get here first. Want AWD and no turbos in a hatch. The R32 is almost enough;-)

It's hard to get the hang of an AWD car. As you know, you have to drive it like a FWD, by exploiting drop-throttle-oversteer. Once you know the trick... Hopefully Dino and his S4 will be there instructing.

I didn't sell cars. I was the scum that detailed them! It was a very cool job though and I know how to clean a car the right way. To bad I got fired for getting into 2 accidents one in a TT which was not my fault and second in a a6 wagon which was my fault!

I learned how to drive on Audi's and Porsches! Learned how to shift with no clucth (no cruch either). Oh it was great and once a week I would take a sold car on a canyon run!!! Funnest had to be the new Porsche Turbo and S4.

Jerry the general manager? He's in Jaguar now. I'm actually really good friends with his son, Jerrys the one who got me the job.

Are you going to Streets of willow?

That definitely looks like the real deal. No Photoshop whatsoever.

R32 is definitely coming this year, according the press release in NAIAS.

If the picture is the first Alfa coming to the states, that will be great!!

If it has AWD too... wow...
well, GM owns Fiat - Fiat owns AR
GM owns Subaru too...:D

Yes, the R32 has been approved for some time.

There is supposed be one at the big NorCal/SoCal Audi meet in SLO on the 25th. I've heard it's here on a tourist visa for a year.

Here's the scoop on VW/Audi:

Gen V Golf/Jetta/Audi A3 will be ever so slightly longer and wider. More importantly, the wheelbase is much longer than the current car, and it gets an IRS standard. The Jetta apparently looks a little like the 156 - not a trunked version of the Golf ( no suprise since De Silva is the design team leader ), and will be 15cm longer than the Golf.

The top engines for the A3 will be the 270hp VR6 S3, and the 300hp+ turbo VR6 RS3. The GTi will get the 240hp VR6 like in the current R32. See the new TT VR6 with DSG gearbox for a taste of what the new A3/S3 will be like.

The next gen Passat will be based on the Golf platform, not the Audi A4 platform. That means transverse engines. Look for the 1.8t to be upgraded to a 2.0t.

It's very likely we'll see the next gen Lupo fill in the bottom rung of the VW line-up, for a car that prices out under $20K.

( Yes, I sold VW and Audi for 5 years. Was VW certified salesperson, and Audi Brand Specialist )

I'm going to try and make it to the Driver's school. Much depends when my sister-in-law gives birth ( 30th this month is due date ) and if everything goes well.

Hey Sniady, was the Avant incident pretty recent ? With a car they did a dealer trade to get ? If so, I know the customer.

It was Manfreds deal a dealertrade that came from somewhere. It was a A6 Avant with a certain option these people wanted. Went to go get gas for it and was driving super mellow. I was the third car at a red light, green came on and a pedestrian stepped onto the road and I rear ended a rover (stupid ABS's if they were regular brakes they'd lock up and I would've made it). I was only going 10-15 miles an hour and the whole hood crumbled and light popped out. The Land Rover had not even a ding.

It happened last mid september. I guess pretty recently.

Any words on A3 (or even S3 and RS3) and Polo going to be on sale in the States?

Verdegrrl -
I've seen several (i think five in a row) A3s driving around in West LA several times with dealer license plates, any idea of which dealer are they belong to?

There is currently an A3 1.8T in my school, that girl comes from Mexico. What a nice looking hatch.

The guy contacted me about finding a salesperson who was going to be honest. I think he's on the list for an RS6 too. The customer was unsure as to what really happened, but in the end, took a car that had to be trucked in from NorCal.

Crap can happen:-(

The next gen A3 is slated for '05 introduction here. Len Hunt ( AoA chief ) has confirmed it. The Polo is still a little more up in the air.

Yes, there are a number of A3s running around. They can be purchased in Mexico or imported here under a variety of guises.

Dealer plates don't always mean dealerships. It can be a small time dealer/middleman/importer who has gone through the ( admittedly expensive ) process to obtain dealer status. However, it is not meant for cars to be used continuously under those plates - especially one not certified or in the process of being certified for this market.

You can also import the car under a tourist visa. This is good for one year, and then the car must leave the country or be crushed. You see this sometimes with EBay auctions of cars that have no business being here;-) Folks trying to unload the car before the visa runs out - leaving the new owner with the same headache.

Some other states have a more lax registration system, which means you can sometimes sneak a car through the registration system. Problem is, you still can't insure it ( unless you lie and call it something else sold here ), a bank isn't going to finance it ( as a car loan - can be a personal loan ), and the EPA and DOT can still confiscate it, if they find out.

Beverly Glen...

Thank you Verdegrrl for all the info.:)

I was thinking they belong to a dealer because I saw them every single day, five in a row, going either from UCLA or towards UCLA on Beverly Glen.

Talking about Beveryly Glen Blvd... there are so many nice cars driving on that road - see the following cars almost every time I go to UCLA
a silver Ferrari 456 GT
numerous other Ferraris and Porsche
a S8
a Lotus Super Seven (parked next to a red Lotus Elan)
and two Red GTVs, one TWIN headlight without bumper and a Quad with bumpers.
