I was on another website when I spotted this photograph of what is proported to be the new AR SUV.

"Based on an all-new 4x4-chassis hidden here by a high-ride Fiat Palio body, Alfa Romeo will soon release its first ever SUV.
The new machine is aiming at buyers opting for a cheaper alternative to the new Audi Q5 or BMW X3 - none of the three is considered for serious off-road driving.

Much more, the new Alfa SUV will stress the firm's sporty ambitions and extravagant design as well as excellent comfort."

looks like the infiniti fx45
i kinda like it and i hate just about everything "new" ...wonder if it will sport the same tryed and true v6
yep. it's definitely on it's way....in 2009. it should look VERY similar to the Kamal concept a few years ago....but expect a re-designed front grille and lights.

It looks like a Subaru. Someone needs to remind Alfa that they are known for making good looking cars again. This is a sure fire way to damage the one thing they got going for them when they come back to the USA.
If they actually come back... not holding my breath on that one :)

Nor am I, although, eastern friends have stated that they have seen them on showroom floors; not this particular car but other Alfas.

I hardly consider the picture in this thread nor the ones linked by URL, SUV's, unless the photography is very deceptive; it appears more like a sedan, not even equal to the size of the "old" late 80's early 90's long-wheel base MB sedans. To me, and I imagine most U.S. buyers, a SUV ranges from Suburban, Excursion, etc. down to the smaller Landcruisers, Pathfinders, Santa Fes, Fortuners, Durangos, and Explorers etc. I have trouble considering the Tucson a SUV because of its smaller size in comparison.
I hate it when car companies build crossover vehicles that resemble SUVs out of platforms that they build sedans on. It's almost as bad as when they try to make a sports car from the same platform that they use for sedans.

My take is that if you can't take it off-roading then its not an SUV. Very few companies have any business marketing their products as SUVs. Ford and Chevy can do it. Lexus, Infiniti, Honda, BMW, Mercedes, and Alfa Romeo can't.

If you were to take a survey of those that have a SUV with 4 wheel drive, I bet it is a very low percentage that actually use the 4 wheel drive option. Carrying all that extra weight around and never use it, seems such a waste. Don't get me started...start another thread for this one. A SUV is basically a pick up truck with a passenger body on it. I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread but I couldn't resist.

Pat and I would probably be the exception to the survey. We bought a four-wheel drive and used it, but not necessarily for off-roading. When you get stuck in 4-wheel drive, get out the wood, floor jacks, shovels and go to it. Not a lot of fun, especially in the mud.
hmm an italian exhaust note in the mud........almost makes my brain think of a ferrari on 44's LOL

ill stick to my 74 ramcharger
Especially since Suburu somewhat stole the front grill of the Kamal.
Modest-sized Wagons that can do 0 to 60 mph in about six seconds-in the wet- need and use the AWD.:D

Like the Giulia and Alfetta?

Hehe, I like that one big-guy!! But I think Arna was talking SUV/sedan/sportscar.

I agree, I dont think its right and I hope ALfa Romeo doesn't become the next company to build some pointless mid-sized, useless 4WD.

Boring.
