need some ideas on how to aline the engine transmission to the rear end,, i have a couple, but the brain trust here might have some more..( this is for my ecotec w/c t5 transmission build,, getting ready to install soon... thank you
Never done this but you could get a cheap laser and mount it on diff end or vise versa and see if the drive shaft goes strait from diff to box. A degree wheel would also help as far as slope.
make an adapter from the driveshaft output yoke on the gearbox that has hole for a cheap laser (as mentioned above). Can be made from wood, or 3d printed or something like that.
then print a circular target on a piece of paper, glue that to some cardboard and align the center of that target with the center of the diff input yoke.
As above, but add rotate the motor a small amount and make another mark where the laser lands, then repeat several times, and you will likely end up with a circle due to the laser not being perfectly aligned with the shaft centre. The centre of the scribed circle is your current alignment.
Perfect alignment is not needed or wanted. The universals need a 1-2 degree misalignment (movement) to keep the needles lubricated. Typically the differential is pointed down relatively to the drive shaft as the nose will rise when power is applied.
