I purchased my 1974 GTV in the Midwest and am planning to drive it back to California this spring when the weather gets better.

I would like to start putting together an emergency or break down kit for my trip.

What are the important tools and parts that I should pack?

Thank you.

Should be an easy trip if the car's in good shape to begin with.

Cell phone and Credit Card
Metric Socket Set, Wrenches, Screwdrivers
Fuses
Fan Belt
Points, Condenser, Cap & Rotor (if no elec ignition)
Spare Tire (a good/new one that's inflated), Jack, Lug Wrench
Oil
Coolant
Spark Plugs

BTW... Have you posted photos of your car yet???

Or you could be like me and not bring anything except your faith!

Ive bought a few cars interstate and *knock on wood*, have not had any issues driving them back. Either i am very lucky or just very dumb, probably a combination of the two. ;)

Either way, its an adventure and i highly recommend it.

If it still has the Spica system, I'd recommend that you take along a copy of the Roadside Guide I wrote on emergency makeshift repairs. Read it and take along the things that could get you going again. Very cheap and very simple.

The most important thing is to make sure that it's good to start with. Fresh filters, fuel tank vent system clear, etc.

Try to find a local garage that will put it on a lift and do a good inspection before you leave.
