Ok, not a complete mystery. It is a switch. Found this in one of my boxes of 102 electrical parts. But is it for the 102? I thought it might be the elusive trunk switch but it is "on" when pressed, so the light would only be on when the boot was closed. Only useful if smuggling kids into a drive-in theatre. Don't ask me how I know...

Not that I know anything about 102s, but my initial guess by the general look of it is reversing light switch? I don't know where it might be mounted on any given 102, but it does look more like a heavy duty item.........maybe.

I never thought of that, yes, you appear to be right! Thanks. The wire colors are correct for the reversing light. Not a clue where it mounts though. Anyone tell me that?

In the bellhousing.
5th -rev shift rail pushes that button. That is a slight guess.
