I have removed the cracked & ugly dash so I can attempt repairs. Under the dash on the right side is the item pictured below. The bit in the middle appears to be a fuse holder. Since there is no fuse what ever it is not currently functioning.

What is it?

Not as fuzzy as you think, Pete.

The device monitors the cat temperature thru a temp probe and, if the cat reaches the device's setpoint, turns on a warning light on the dash.

Jim, it has been over 25 years since I have worked on and built the race cars for my boss.( but you knew that part already)
There are alot of things I try to forget , and some thing are fuzzy after that long. Sometimes I like these test posts, but I think some just sit by their computer to chime in first. This might be my 3rd P-1
