Mystery 24 Valve Auto Tranny Harness Connector?

Any ideas on this connector? It is from an automatic transmission 1995 164 LS (Super) 24 valve car...

It is located on the driver - US left - side of the car up close to the fire-wall. It comes from the auto transmission harness as a blue with black stripe wire to some weird little round connector and continues in to the engine ECU harness as a white with black stripe wire...

I am converting the car to manual and this wire goes away with the auto harness - any ideas...? Any other functions that may be effected by removing the auto control unit and harness completely?
