This is the bit that I found really funny/sad:

you have to figure out the cold starts; matter of adjusting both chokes to where it feels good. Once breathing and warmed up there’s no problem. Again, chokes’ need to be adjusted while driving to maintain the correct mixture. In my opinion this is just the “charm” of these old classic cars. Once you’ve figured it out “it’s normal”! STARTING INSTRUCTIONS ARE HANDWRITTEN BY EX-OWNER – TAPED ON DASHBOARD.
What a load of [email protected]

And we all wonder why Alfa Romeos get this unreliable/finicky reputation ...:mad::mad:

Alfa Romeos are dead easy to start ... you don't even need the choke!!!

I agree. He's clueless.
I like the car though

I must admit I do like the car though. Was this a factory paint job?
...NO just stickers. Screams: "Pizza delivery vehicle" to me.

This looks like anything but a good car, and certainly not worth the current bid! What's sad is that I can picture the seller convincing someone that this is somehow a "special" example...

Best regards,
The two "chokes" are actually the hand throttle plus a Shankle sure start.
:eek:Additionally, there are no warranties with respect to the future performance of any mechanical or drive train components.
:cool:Is this a Bobcor car:confused:

The last owner (believed to be the second owner) appeared to be meticulous about all aspects of the car..... Appears he was adamant about checking oil levels and consumption,.... One plug had loose post...

:(no doubt, all factors contributing to the owners demise.

My original comment was not meant as an invitation to disparage Italian/American sensabilities but merely as an observation that too many Alfa owners seem to think its not enough to have an Alfa. I haven't noticed this with any other mark.

When was the last time you saw a Karmann Ghia with a Porsche Sticker?

Best regards,
Reminds me of the kids in school who were different. They referred to them as "special":D

About a year or so ago when I bought my 164 S the PO had a Ferrari script badge on the trunk and a prancing horse badge on the glove box. That lasted about four minutes. Too bad there is still residue on my glove. What a dork!

Well then the owner is really a dork if he thinks that the hand throttle is a choke.

But yes thanks for pointing that out :). I also think most people who use choke with webers cause more problems than solve them ... just learn to blip until warm. That is why healing and toeing is so important to keep the engine running while it is fully warming during the first few minutes :D.

Err, anyone seen the bidding on this car lately? Anyway, gotta go, I need to do some shopping for Bugatti stickers - to go on my Volvo project.

Cheers!

At the Houston Italian Festival, there was a Fiat with prancing horse stickers on the front fenders, just in front of the doors.

Well, only one solution.

I went and looked at and drove this particular car a couple days ago while in the bay area for thanksgiving.....pm if you want my feedback...already over priced summarizes my opinion at the bid of $9,600.

Overpriced is a matter of opinion, but if a buyer doesn't think so, then I'd say that this car and him/her are a perfect match. :D

Best regards,
to be fair...I don't know the market accurately to rate what this car is worth and I really love boattail's. white is a good color on these cars and I wouldn't mind owning this one if the deal was great as the car needs some work. The fellow selling it is a nice guy and has a box full of records indicating the previous owner was an alfisti (wonder why the ferrari stickers then? should've known better!!).
The reserve is not met at USD 9600. IMHO the car is wildly overpriced at that level - that said, I agree a car up for auction is worth what it brings, by definition. I suspect the engine may not be original and from what I can see in the photos, the injection system is at least partially later than '69. Caveat Emptor indeed

Cheers!
