Slight chance that I'll move to US given an job offer in Houston.
how is it with importing/bringing a car to the US. What I have in mind is my
72 GTV. Any import taxes to take into account or special tests it has
to pass? It's fully restored and licensed to drive, but given the age
probably can't pass a modern emission test. How about road taxes
etc.

All the best

I don't think you will face many problems with a 1972 year model. Texas will require a safety inspection. Not too complicated at all. Harris county does do emmisions testing. But for 1972 may be exempt.

Be sure you understand proof of ownership requirements and have all documents. Texas collects road tax in the price of gasoline. 1972 model probably has no ad valorem tax. License plates will probably be about 65 USDollars per year. The safety inspection is annual and was 15 USD. Not sure if it still that or a little more now.
