My 74 spider has been rusting away for a few years now, not running, needs new clutch. I am beginning the job today, and hope to have motor out by end of weekend. I have reasonable wrench skills, but this is my first time breaking apart an Alfa (I do have prev exp on other Italian veh.).

I'm planning to post pics as I go, would appreciate being lectured or steered.

Are you planning to remove just the motor or motor & gearbox? If the latter it needs a very steep angle. If the former some of the engine to bell housing bolts will be difficult to access (but not impossible). Either way you'll also need to get the center tie rod out of the way. To avoid upsetting the alignment you can unbolt the steering idler and lower that unit with center tie rod still attached.
