Sometimes one needs to measure a voltage or resistance in a relay circuit when the relay is in place. For this, an easy approach is a relay "extension cord". Essentially it is a 5 pin male plug, wire, and a 5 pin female socket. In the middle of the wire you can pull back the insulation for clip leads or your multimeter.

I have looked everywhere for a 5 pin male plug to build this and have had no luck. So I bought a pack of 5 female sockets with the wires attached, with relays, from Amazon. I then tore open one of the relays and took everything out that I could and soldered leads from the Amazon product to the lugs that were still in place. The relay became my male plug. This has been quite helpful.
