I've read in my manual, that I need to remove 4 of the 8 flywheel bolts, then insert some studs to retain the half moons. Then remove the remaining bolts, and slide the flywheel off.

Do I really need to insert some retaining studs?

Reason I ask is I haven't any m9x1.0 bolts I could mod, or threaded bar or studs. And this size is actually rarer than horny panda...........can't find anything.

Any kind of dowel will work. Sometimes I just use short pencils.
The threaded parts are two pieces that can fall down and make it hard to start the bolts.

No, you don´t. The half-moon lookalike inserts can´t fall down; they just can move away slightly from the holes. Which is no problem to get it back when fitting the flywheel with a small screwdriver for example. Don´t worry, take the flywheel off. Be careful when torque-tightening these bolts; maximum 45Nm required !
