With out taking apart a 1600/1750 early 105 rear axle, is it possible to install a 2 liter LSD unit or are the holes missing in the ring gear to mount it? Would the axles have to be changed too? I understand, why not just swap out the rear axle complete. This is more of a curiosity question.

This has been covered in another recent thread!

Do a search.
These are totally different designs, different size carriers, different size axles with different size splines.

LSDs for 101/105 size diffs

I build LSD units for these smaller differentials, as well as modified axle shafts so that they fit.

For a 101 type car with a different pumpkin/axles/and locating system this is a excellent upgrade $$ wise. However for 105 cars, a used 115 axle with LSD bolts righ to the chassis. And come very cheap...
