murray - can you post a few more pics of your car from different angles? i got the IAP sport springs also - havent picked up the car yet though.
The first pic is another angle with the IAP spring before I added shims to the front springs?

I had problems with the car bottoming out all the time with the IAP, 205/50/15 series tires and the Koni Reds. I ended up shimming the front spring up a bit and switch to Koni Yellow's and now no problems not even on parking lot speed bumps. IMO if your going to Sport springs go to Koni Yellows with a S-4 Spider. You will get a lot of conflicting opinons on this but this is what I found with my S-4.

The next 3 pictures is the stance with the shims, 205/50/15's and the koni yellows. The stance is more level now with the rear end just up a tad. The shims were just washers and we ended up raising the stance up front by about 3/4".

The last pic is before raising the front end again so you can see the side by side comparsion.

Hey Murray, can you throw some dirt and crap on that car of yours so I don't feel like I have to go wash and wax mine this weekend?

Thanks man.
murray - if i just kept the IAP springs and did nothing else will this prevent bottoming out ?

It's the camera it's looks cleaner than it really is. look at the reflection in the hood do you see the water spots and dust?:D

The springs (all sport springs) lower the car and IMO if you don't stiffen up the shocks your going to bottom out more, not a big deal if you have a pan guard.

I just got tired of the BANG along with the chill down my spine and the watching out for every little dip, hump and pot holes. I say drive with them for a while and see if there is a problem. If there is, it's not a big deal to shim the front up a bit or go to a stiffer setting on the Koni Reds.

I take mine out to the track a couple time a year so that was part of the reason I went with the Koni Yellows.
Murray - that is one heck of a car!!! Of course I've followed your thread on the performance upgrades you have made and I am totally in awe!!!

Question please - The pics taken of your car in the garage- can you tell me what type of rims they are, they are sharp! In the last pic, looks as though you changed them over?

Thanks

Jeff

You and lgb are worse than me up all hours of the morning :)
Picture #1 - IAP springs with Koni reds, Pirelli P6000 15"-195 Tires in 2005

Picture #2 - Factory springs (no shims) Konis, Bridgestone G009 205/55 tires
Taking a break on the way to Watkins Glen in 2005.

Picture #3 - Factory springs with new shims and rubbers, new rear Koni reds and same tires

I think its time to go back to a lowered spring set-up.......but that is for another post.

Beautiful! Shims = wheel spacers? To widen the stance?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks, the wheels are Borbet's, I got them at the Tire Rack they are Ford Escort wheels (15 x7's) I use them for the track, the Panasport's are for street.

Ya, LGB and I were up kinda late last night but he's in the eastern time zone (I'm central) so he bet me by 2 hours.

Hey Murray. How does the car ride with the hard top. IAP says their spring don't work with Quads (cars with hardtops). The original spring for hardtop cars are different. Just wondering if you had any issues.

By the way. Stick with the Panosports!!!

Never had any problems but I only put the hardtop on to go to the track events (they require a hardtop). Yes I like the Panasports better too. I use the Borbets for my deducated track wheels.

Shims in the spring pans to raise and level the stance.....

BTW, Murray's stance is perfect.

-Rob
Centerline yellow "performance" springs, no shims. I scrape the pan guard pretty often.

clearly subjective - but i like Murray's borbets better then the panasports, either way, unlike most of us, he has the option to switch to whatever he is in the mood for. anyway you look at it - he has one of the nicest spiders on this board.

Thanks Rob, I like the more level stance too. The a-arms should be parallel to the ground for the best handling and the stance gives that to me. The thing that I like the most though is I don't bottom out with it

Thanks Lbj,

Everyone posting in this thread has awsome S-4 Spiders, and I think we have all the colors covered too. :)

On the Borbet's
I like them too and they were only $99 ea. :) I'm not sure they are still avaible but the mid eighty's Fords had the same bolt patters and their offsets were close enough to make them fit our Spiders with spacers. I needed to by 5 mm spacers to get the right offset.
It may be the picture, or the 14" wheels, but to my eye the car with the Centerline yellows looks noticeably lower than those with the IAP springs. I assume that Centerline sells a different spring than that sold at IAP, I cannot imagine that there are actually too many people manufacturing Alfa sport springs...
